Our Philosophy
Les BouTchou's program is based on a child development model which incorporates the theories of Jean Piaget, Erik and Joan Erikson, Lev Vygotsky, and Marie Montessori. Learning through play is viewed as the cornerstone of the curriculum. Adults provide protection, affection, security, stimulation, support and limits. Children are respected as individuals within a child-oriented, rather than teacher-directed program. We believe that staying connected to the families, while integrating their beliefs, traditions, and values, provide children with a sense of community and belonging which is essential to their development.
Our Practice
At Les BouTchou, children are given the opportunity to explore materials and participate in a variety of carefully planned experiences.. Children are free to choose from age-appropriate activities including arts and crafts, music, language development, science, nature, dramatic play and sensory activities. Children develop self-esteem, independence and problem-solving skills through their choices.
Daily communication with parents is an essential part of our practice, the child’s log will be shared daily and can be discussed at t drop off and pick up times. We are also available over the phone throughout the day if needed.
Mission Statement
Our primary goal is for children to feel safe, loved, protected, accepted, and wanted. We aim to instill in each child a strong sense of self-worth, purpose, and agency. Prior to being independent, a child must know that they can depend on adults within a predictable environment. We recognize that children develop at different rates and have different interests. The amount of adult guidance varies with each activity, as it is our belief that a good program offers both directed and non-directed experiences, while meeting the individual needs of each child.
Inclusion Statement
Les BouTchou is committed to inclusivity and maintaining a healthy sustainable environment for all children and families. We provide an unbiased, culturally sensitive learning space, not affiliated with any singular beliefs. We celebrate all cultural aspects of each of our children’s lives while exploring different ones. Our aim is to create a community of families that can come together to share and celebrate everyone starting with the children. We are an anti-racism, safe space, with zero tolerance for any type of intolerance/ignorance.
